About
Ichor will consist of a world map you can freely travel on within the hand crafted fantasy world spanning three continents. While the world is always the same at the start of the game, the events to follow are truly your own with the every shifting political landscape and attacks from unruly monsters.
Planned Features
Character customization - Customize your characters background, personality, and appearance to your liking for a deeper role-playing experience. You are not the chosen one, just a human making their way in the world.
Living world - The world will dynamically shape with lord striving for power and merchants striving for profits. If a wyvern burns a village, the excess need for wood will bring merchants to price gouge. There is included major world villans in the lost corners of the world striving their own criteria's for bringing the world to their knees causing late game calamities if not foiled.
No Level Scaling - Enemies don't level with you. Whether an hour into the game or a minute a cyclops will always be the strength of a cyclops. You will go from running with your tail between your legs to quickly dispatching them.
Real-time combat - Command your troops in real time giving orders and making custom battle formations with impactful sword play where every strike matters.
The Developer
Hey it's me, faceless developer man. I'm just one guy who likes games and works 40+ hours a week to afford to make a game in my free time. During development, I don't believe in collecting peoples hard earned money— that's what the final product is for. all I ask for is help getting the word about the game out!
DEVLOGS
Update Post #2
I have been neglecting updates, and especially this website, too much. Here I am trying to go even more in-depth than I would in a Devlog to give a bigger peek under the hood. Current state of the game and state of me. The game progress is going well and I believe I am 2 years out from having it complete, I'm aiming the for end of 2025. Me, I took a break in the month of December so I'm ready to hit it hard. I was extremely burnt out from working with Data Structures.
Since my last update I had Ichor test played, so far, mostly good news. People found the combat to be fun. Two out of the five test players mentioned it being like a classic fighting game with how you managed space. Bad news was, I had a list of 20+ items for quality of life improvements. It took me a week to implement them all, but the game is better for it. Some of the needed quality changes had to do with fishing feeling unintuitive and things like shift clicking items into your gear slots.
I had also created a main menu, setting menu, and character creation screen for the demo. For character creation, there's 72 different hair styles, 14 different hair colors, 9 different eye colors, 8 different skin tones, 6 different body types, and 9 different facial hairs split between the 4 races.
I have swapped to inventory system to using a data structure instead of the shoddy group of variables that made it up before this conversion took a whole week— really pays to do it right the first time. Then in January I had to burn myself out by dealing with data structures by making a system to hold player data. There was less sting this time since I know I wont have to swap everything over to a better system later .
Its time to begin working on the overworld map. I thought it was most important to create fun combat and an engaging combat AI. While I plan having the game played with minimal combat I also know combat is how most will play it making it one of the most crucial features.
Now with the development of the overworld map, I believe its time to start being more active with updates since interesting content instead of hard to understand back end work will be the main progress going forward.
First Devlog - Update Post #1
I made a Devlog to update everyone. It explains a lot of stuff from the first post. Main take away if you don't feel like watching it is I've completed the inventory system, for now at least.
The Primordial POst - Update Post #0
My current project I'm dubbing a Medieval Life Simulator (with some fantasy elements sprinkled in).
Personally Emergent Story telling is what I believe to be Video Games strongest aspect and I don't believe its explored enough.
My fondest Video Game moments aren't from Shadow of Mordor's story, but the Orc that killed me twice to have me throw him into a fire just to spite him only to have him come back for the dead for a final duel.
What the bastard got what he deserved and the fire was hungry!
Thanks to this youtuber named Joov who has a series playing Skyrim region locked to a city, I started wanting a game I could just as easily play in one city as you could roaming the world.
So here I am dusting off my coding boots and getting ready to raise hell selfishly so I can get this game I want.
I'm just one guy so I have to limit my scope but I'm still going to make a big world just only towns and important landmarks will be hand made. Random woods you go into will be randomly/procedurally generated.
Another effort to reduce my work load and make it completable in three years rather than eight is the minimizing of animation frames hence why the guy to my right walks like penguin and has no arms.
The game will be real time. I just prefer it over turn based. Although I would be able to get away with a lack of animations more there. Damn you my preferences.
There will be an overworld map that you navigate on to get from place to place and then your character will be beamed into the locations.
It will have RPG mechanics and a party system for having NPCs join you on your adventure.
For world conflicts, factions will fight each other and their will be Villain's trying to complete their own world shattering agendas in real time.
The goals is for you to be able to live as a King, Merchant, Knight, Adventure, Tavern Keep, Farmer, Bum and etc.
In the interest of not making this too long. THATS ALL FOLKS!
I'll probably make a video about this same post.
